Robbinsdale Cooper Debate Team extended its streak to eight straight years qualifying students to the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) State Debate Tournament. Junior Collin Brown finished 5th at the Section 4AA Tournament held on January 6th and 7th at Blaine High School. This marks the third year in a row Collin has qualified for the tournament.
"The success over these past eight years has been remarkable and would not have been possible without the extremely dedicated students and assistant coaches I get to work with everyday," said Head Debate Coach DJ Brynteson.
The eighted straight appearance to the state tournament marks the 4th longest active streak of consecutive years a school has qualified students to the state tournament. In those eight year, Cooper has qualified twleve students to the state tournament. Won the state tournament in 2007, was runner-up in 2008 and finished in the top four three other times.
The state tournament will be held on the campus of the University of Minnesota on January 13th and 14th. The MSHSL State Debate Tournament is the oldest running tournament held by the MSHSL and is in it's 111th year - first held in 1902. The Robbinsdale Cooper Debate Team is coached by DJ Brynteson, Rob Cegla and Emilia Spalding.
